PA Cyber students march for drug-free, bully-free school

MIDLAND, Pa — PA Cyber Charter School students, as well as students from Midland’s Neel Elementary School dressed up Thursday for a combination Red Ribbon Month observance and Halloween parade. The several hundred students walked Midland Avenue chanting “Our school rocks! Bully-free; Drug-free.”

Following the parade, PA Cyber students and their families attended a Halloween party sponsored by the Student Achievement Program, which oversees the school’s Red Ribbon Month activities.

Contest winners announced

Fifth grader Lauren Laidacker and seventh grader Sabrina Laidacker have been chosen as the winners of the PA Cyber Red Ribbon Poster contest. The sisters were chosen from among the 54 poster submissions in the K4-6th and 7th-12th grade categories, respectively.

Other winners in the K4-6th grade category included: sixth grader Chad Leach, second place; second grader Matt Ginther, third place; and first grader Madison Stokes, honorable mention. In the 7th-12th grade category, winners included: 12th grader Ashley Herron, second place; ninth grader Linda Lin, third place; and eighth graders Michael Cabrera and Rachel Smith, honorable mention.

John Oster, student assistance program coordinator, said that he was very happy with this years contest. “We had triple the number of entries from last year so we are really pleased with the participation rate and happy to see students involved with the Red Ribbon Campaign.”

The two grand prize winners will each receive a Red Ribbon prize package, as well as an art kit. All other winners will also receive a Red Ribbon prize package.
