PA Cyber Wexford to hold Fall Festival, Open House
Event open to enrolled and interested families
WEXFORD,Pa.—The Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School will hold a fall festival and open house on Thursday, Oct. 20 at the Pittsburgh Support Center in Wexford, Pa. The event is open to all families in the Pittsburgh metro area.
The Pittsburgh Support Center is located at 155 Lake Drive, Wexford, PA, 15090.
Academy leader Jon Spanik, whose team is based out of the Pittsburgh office and is organizing the event, said the focus is three fold: orientation, PSSA prep and awareness of the office and its services.
“We were already working on each of those projects individually so this is a combination of all three,” he said. “We want families who are unfamiliar with the support center and its services to come and learn about us. We want to orient those who may still feel lost in the PA Cyber world. And we want to create a fun way to put PSSA prep material in students and parents hands.”
PSSA prep an important focus for PA Cyber, as those testing scores are the biggest factor in a school making AYP. “One of our strategies for improving PSSA scores this year was to have a mock testing day at the office,” said Spanik. “Now at the open house, teachers will be handing out study materials and practice tests to families, so they can work on them at the event and take them home.”
In addition to the orientation sessions and meet and greet with the staff, representatives from Elementary Curriculum, Virtual Classroom, Student Achievement, ArtReach, PA Cyber++, Family Link and Tech Support will have information booths set up.
Families that are not already enrolled in PA Cyber will also be able to sign ups for an upcoming Admissions event, which will be held on Thursday, Nov. 5.
Students will have the opportunity to interact with their classmates and other area children through various activities including arts and crafts, games, face painting and pumpkin cookie decorating.
The PA Cyber Fall Festival and Open House will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm; pizza and refreshments will be served. This event is free to all families, but those planning to attend should RSVP by Oct. 19 by calling 1.888.722.9237, extension 1652.
