Monday, August 6, 2007

MIDLAND, Pa. – The Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School Board of Trustees selected a new president and appointed two new trustees at its annual reorganization meeting. Both new trustees are parents of PA Cyber students.

The board amended its bylaws to allow participation in board meetings by telephone conference call or other electronic means. One of the new trustees is a Philadelphia resident.

The actions came at a July 31, 2007, meeting of the board.

Edward Elder of Aliquippa, a veteran board member who has been vice president since July 2005, was named board president, and Phil Tridico was elected vice president. Mary Ellen Bellay, outgoing president, assumed the office of treasurer.

New trustees welcomed to the board were Thomas Dorsey of Philadelphia and Dr. David Jaskiewicz of Wexford.

Dorsey, a resident of 108 W. Apsley St. in the Philadelphia City School District, is retired from the Philadelphia City Police Department and its S.W.A.T. (Special Weapons And Tactics) Division. Father of a fifth grade student enrolled in PA Cyber, he resides in the Germantown section of Philadelphia.

Dr. Jaskiewicz, an optometrist, is a resident of 340 Pinkerton Road, Wexford, in the Pine-Richland School District. His daughter, now entering the sixth grade, has been a PA Cyber student since 2001.

In regular business, the board accepted a bid for lease-purchase of computers, pursuant to its cooperative purchasing agreement with Pa. Commonwealth through the Co-Stars list, and approved a master agreement with Huntington National Bank.

Dr. Nick Trombetta, founder and CEO of PA Cyber, announced the next board meeting will be held at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, in the third-floor conference room at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center, located at One Lincoln Park, Midland, Pa.

PA Cyber is the largest cyber charter school in Pennsylvania, anticipating an enrollment of more than 7,000 this fall. More information about PA Cyber and its board of trustees is available online at www.pacyber.org
