The Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School

Curriculum Overview

PA Cyber combines cutting-edge technology, personal instruction, and the most rigorous curriculum with highly qualified, dedicated, and enthusiastic teachers. All PA Cyber curricula are approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

After a student is enrolled in PA Cyber, a personalized education plan is created in close consultation with the student and family. An Instructional Supervisor (IS), who is a certified teacher, is assigned to each student and plays a crucial role in the student's success by helping the family choose a curriculum for their student, closely monitoring the student's progress, maintaining academic records, and maintaining regular contact with the student and family.

Students at PA Cyber have several curricula from which to choose but all of them fall into two broad categories – asynchronous learning (self-paced) and synchronous (real time) learning. An asynchronous curriculum is best for a student who needs greater flexibility in his or her schedule (i.e. motivated learners, students who are ill, students who have children, students who travel regularly, etc). A synchronous curriculum is best for students who are interested in real-time instruction. For these students, PA Cyber conducts real-time classes with live instructors utilizing a software program, Interwise, and the Internet. Together, these aspects create a Virtual Classroom for students where students can interact with the teacher as well as classmates through spoken, written, and auditory communication. Classes are conducted several hours per week and there are also independent assignments, tests, and quizzes to complete on days in which live classes are not held.

Additionally, interactive tutoring, foreign language classes, a fine arts program are available to PA Cyber students.
