Our History

The Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School is rooted in the history of Western Pennsylvania steel--specifically from a once-thriving borough named Midland.  The devastating decline of the industry in the 1970's would, over time, lead to an entire community of students with decreasing opportunities for a high-school education attained locally.

The sequence of events that lead to the creation of PA Cyber is a fascinating and telling example of how the initiative of individuals, combined with the resolve of a community and the flexibility of new and unique education alternatives, gave the first 500 students of PA Cyber a chance to build their own school out of choices and not bricks.

This original class of 500 would evolve into an education revolution that now touches every corner of the state.  As of 2011, PA Cyber is home to over 11,000 students and now, just as then, the results speak for themselves.
